New event, new appointment, new year!

Join Stacey, Elena, and me for breakfast on January 5!

New Event

Breakfast is on us!

Please join Senator Elena Parent, Representative Stacey Evans, and me for breakfast at Mary Mac’s Tea Room on Monday January 5, 9:00 - 10:30 am. We look forward to previewing the 2026 legislative session and enjoying time with constituents and supporters!

You can RSVP here.

Can’t make it? Your contribution helps me do this work. I rely on donations to communicate with supporters, provide constituent services, and run campaigns. Legislators can’t fundraise while the legislature is in session (January 12 - March tbd), so this is the last opportunity for a while to support my work.

Your support, at the level that is comfortable for you, means so much to me!

New Appointment

I’m pleased to share the Speaker of the House recently appointed me to the House Regulated Industries Committee.

Rep. Saira Draper Appointed to the House Regulated Industries Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Saira Draper (D-Atlanta) today was appointed by House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve as a member on the House Regulated Industries Committee for the remainder of the 2025-2026 term. Rep. Draper was appointed to the Regulated Industries Committee due to a vacancy on the committee left by former Representative Shelly Hutchinson, who resigned earlier this year.

“I’m grateful for this new appointment and for the opportunity to join the House Regulated Industries Committee for the remainder of this legislative term,” said Rep. Draper. “This committee oversees legislation that directly impacts many Georgians – from professional licensing to medical marijuana and hemp policies – the committee’s scope is extensive. I look forward to building on the important work carried out by my predecessor and contributing to the committee’s efforts to ensure Georgia’s regulatory landscape supports transparency, fairness and the best interests of our communities.”

The House Regulated Industries Committee regulates the way companies and professionals in the alcohol, tobacco, construction, cosmetology, funeral services and other industries conduct business in Georgia and further oversees occupational licensure and certification pertaining to such industries.

A complete list of all House committees may be found here.

Representative Saira Draper represents the citizens of District 90, which includes a portion of DeKalb County. She was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2022 and currently serves as the House Minority Caucus Chief Deputy Whip. She also serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Judiciary Juvenile, Regulated Industries and Urban Affairs committees.

New Year

The 2026 Legislative Session is around the corner. When we gavel in on January 12, I’ll be working hard to advocate for laws our district supports and push back against the ones we don’t. I hope we’ll focus on table kitchen issues this year, like affordability, literacy, and healthcare — the issues Georgians need us to focus on. However, I suspect we’re in for a rocky session given that so many politicians are strategizing for the 2026 election cycle.

You can count on me to keep you updated during session and give it to you straight. Please share the Draper Paper with a friend you believe might appreciate the content.

I fight to make change every day, but I also look back on 2025 with a lot of gratitude in my heart. I’m grateful for good health, fulfilling work (a new job with Pope Trial Law!), and the honor of being entrusted to serve the people of Georgia House District 90. And any year I share with my three favorite constituents is a special one for me. From my family to yours, happy holidays and happy 2026!
